Shayla Klein maintains a broad civil and commercial litigation practice with a focus in labour and employment law. Shayla’s experience includes advising employers on employment contracts, workplace policies, human rights disputes, workplace investigations including occupational health and safety, human rights and harassment claims, disability accommodation and gradual return to work planning, performance management and employee discipline, terminations, wrongful and constructive dismissal. Shayla also assists employers with a unionized workforce regarding the interpretation and navigation of collective agreements, bargaining, grievances and arbitrations.

Shayla has successfully appeared in front of Small Claims Court, the Court of King’s Bench and the Court of Appeal. Shayla also regularly makes submissions before administrative tribunals such as the Human Rights Commission and Saskatchewan Municipal Board. Whether representing clients in disputes or acting in an advisory capacity, Shayla implements a pragmatic, results-driven approach to achieve client objectives.

Shayla obtained her Juris Doctor and Bachelor degrees from the University of Calgary. Throughout her time at law school, Shayla participated in and lead numerous volunteer and pro-bono initiatives. Prior to starting her legal career with Miller Thomson, Shayla worked for a large non-profit in Calgary as a Regional Centre Manager overseeing three large-scale aquatic and recreation facilities.

Outside of work Shayla is a travel addict, board game lover and outdoor enthusiast. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, camping and downhill skiing. Shayla loves sports and played infield for the University of Calgary Dinos’ Fastpitch team during her undergrad degree.
